Strengthen Literacy. Build Community. Find Purpose.

Join a team of local leaders who care deeply about early learning and the future of Henry County’s children.

Volunteer With Ferst Readers of Henry County

Ferst Readers of Henry County is 100% volunteer-driven. Our Community Action Team helps strengthen early literacy by supporting outreach, partnerships, events, and local fundraising efforts.

You don’t have to be an educator to help. If you care about children, learning, and the future of Henry County, there is a place for you here.

What Volunteers Do

Because books are selected and mailed through the national Ferst Readers program, our local volunteers focus on the work that makes Henry County’s impact possible:

  • Community outreach and enrollment awareness

  • School and community partnerships

  • Fundraising and sponsor coordination

  • Event planning and support

  • Administrative coordination and follow-up

Who Is a Great Fit?

We often hear from:

  • Retired teachers, educators, and administrators

  • Librarians and literacy advocates

  • Community leaders and civic club members

  • Parents who care about early learning

  • Professionals who want to invest locally

If you’re reliable, community-minded, and willing to contribute consistently, you’ll fit right in.

What to Expect

We’re a small, committed team. Some volunteers help occasionally; others take on ongoing roles. We’ll match your interests and availability with what we need most right now.

Doris Griffin, Chair of the Community Action Team for Ferst Readers of Henry County.
