Growing Readers. Strengthening Henry County.

For over two decades, Ferst Readers of Henry County has delivered high-quality books to children from birth to age five — building stronger families and brighter futures.

OUR MISSION

Ferst Readers of Henry County strengthens our community by providing children and their families with quality books and literacy resources during the earliest stages of development.

We believe literacy begins at birth — not in kindergarten.

Children who are surrounded by books early are more likely to:

  • Enter kindergarten ready to learn

  • Read on grade level

  • Graduate prepared for future success

Our focus is simple:
strengthen early literacy in Henry County.

100% Volunteer-Driven

Ferst Readers of Henry County is led by a dedicated Community Action Team made up of local business leaders, retired educators, and civic-minded volunteers.

We are the local affiliate of Ferst Readers, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to early literacy.

“The ability to read is the single most important skill a child can acquire. That foundation is built at home long before students enter our classrooms. Ferst Readers of Henry County ensures our youngest learners arrive at school ready to succeed.”

Superintendent, Henry County Schools (2017–2024)

“This program has opened up my three-year-old’s imagination. If we’re not reading a Ferst book at bedtime, he tells me his own story. Great program — thank you!”
